From Engineer to Founder
The mindset shifts required when going from building features to building a company.
Making the transition from engineer to founder requires more than just technical skills. Here are the biggest mindset shifts I’ve had to make.
From Perfect to Good Enough
As engineers, we’re trained to build robust, scalable systems. As founders, we need to ship fast and iterate. This was my hardest adjustment.
From Execution to Strategy
Instead of executing on a roadmap, I now have to create the roadmap. Every decision has downstream effects that I need to consider.
From Team to Solo
Working alone means wearing many hats. Some days I’m coding, other days I’m doing marketing or customer research.
The Upside
Despite the challenges, there’s something deeply satisfying about building something that’s entirely your own. Every line of code, every decision, every success is yours.
